Calgary Stampede -

Merry groups of people, great food, country music resounding all around, and an all-out atmosphere of the old wild west signify the event which some might say is the greatest show in the planet. Having the distinction as being the biggest non-commercial festival, rodeo contest, and exhibition in the world, Calgary Stampede stands as one grandiose occasion in Canada. Visitors who are in Calgary during July’'s second week will have the privilege to take part in the festivities held every year.

The Calgary Stampede had its humble beginnings on 1912, when a trick roper from America named Guy Weadick had a dream of bringing together the best and finest cowboys from all over the continent. He did this by setting up a rodeo and a cowboy show, and it instantly paved the way for the famous Calgary Stampede. In 1923, another event called the Calgary Exhibition merged with Weadick's Calgary Stampede, and the combined event was held annually ever since.

This event is being held in the Stampede Grounds on the southeast fringe of downtown Calgary in the Beltline District. The fest open with the famous Stampede Parade, the largest and oldest tradition of the celebration. It is headed by the Stampede Band and is attended by countless locals and visitors alike and is televised and viewed by millions watching at home. Highlights of the event include a rodeo competition which is recognized internationally, a midway, various stage performances and concerts, agricultural contests, chuck wagon and horse races, a series of exhibitions by First Nations, and free food such as barbecues given all over the city. Furthermore, the cowboy spirit can be seen in guests and locals alike who are dressed in western outfits, and establishments too are decorated with western ornaments and memorabilia.

In conclusion, the Calgary Stampede is perfect for people planning to visit this city and who are looking for some jovial active fun with a nudge at the old western spirit. Moreover, proper precaution is highly recommended to folks who have decided to partake in its festivities.
